Opportunities for local employers to link to a future workforce!

  • Have you had problems recruiting people with the right skills or behaviours to your business?
  • Do you find some young people do not understand what is expected by employers from them when they leave school or college?
  • Are you keen to help recruit the next generation in to your industry/business?

If you have answered yes to any of the above then Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership needs your help!

A new Government led initiative, the Careers and Enterprise Company is working with the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) to inspire and prepare young people for the world of work, by linking employer volunteers (Enterprise Advisers) with local schools.

In a recent survey conducted by the CBI and sponsored by Education Development International (EDI), nearly 70% of companies said that students have inadequate business and customer awareness skills and over half perceived weaknesses in school leavers’ personal-management skills.

The Careers and Enterprise Company, in partnership with the LLEP, will help to address some of these issues, giving employers the opportunity to talk with schools and young people about what they do, the business landscape, and the training, characteristics and attitude needed to work in their industry.

Why not get involved?

Benefits for employers include:

  • The chance to support the development of your future workforce and to create a talent pipeline
  • Easier access to schools and colleges to raise awareness of your industry and enhance business-education links
  • A chance of investing in your local community and meet CSR responsibilities
  • The opportunity to become part of a local Enterprise Adviser network that provides a forum for employers to discuss and work together to resolve local skills issues.
  • Great PR for your company
  • Help to raise the aspirations of local young people
  • Great opportunities to develop you and your workforce
  • Great opportunities for your employees to get involved either as volunteer Enterprise Advisers or supporting other activities.

Become an Enterprise Adviser

The network of Enterprise Advisers comprises volunteers drawn from business and other employers, both large and small.   They will work directly with the leadership of individual schools and colleges to develop effective employer engagement programmes.

We are now recruiting Enterprise Advisers, who need to be able to commit a few hours per month for a minimum period of a year.

In return they will have the opportunity to make a hands-on difference to the development of our young people, helping to address many of the concerns around motivation and skill development highlighted today by the business community.

Clusters of schools, colleges and Enterprise Advisers will be supported by a full time LLEP Enterprise Coordinator.
